Terra Weekly Mission Status Update

Weekly Update Archive

October 22 - 28 2004

All Terra Subsystems and Instruments have performed nominally for the past week.

An inclination simulation was successfully performed on October 21, 2004, with full offline engineering support. Also, on Oct. 26, the first of three planned Inclination Adjust Maneuvers (IAMs) was performed successfully to a very high accuracy. The delta inclination was +0.016038 degrees, varying only minus 0.000032 degrees from what was planned. Likewise, the delta Semi-Major Axis (SMA) was +48.9m varying only -2.5m from the planned change. Results of this maneuver (IAM#10) will be incorporated into planning for IAM#11 and IAM#12.

A demonstration of the re-engineered TRMM control center was well attended on Oct. 25. Key members of the Terra Flight Operations Team (FOT) were present and were shown some of the features of the GMSEC architecture relative to the TRMM effort.

A demonstration of the Space Orbital Anomaly System (SOARS) occurred on Oct. 26. Key members of the Aqua/Aura/Terra FOT attended. The plan is to become familiar with the test version of the software and then begin entering real anomalies once the final version is delivered in the next couple of weeks.

Two Mission Impact Reports (MIRs) occurred this week having to do with K-band dropouts all from TDRS Spare (TDS). This is a common problem that occurs more frequently (1-2 times per week) this time of year. In any event, no science data were lost due to replaying data on the next available TDRSS contact.

One MIR occurred this week due to inability to verify the receipt of a number of Channel Access Data Units (CADUs) at the White Sands GSIP. This involved a proficiency contact with Norway/SGS, so no '‘real’ data were lost.
