Terra Weekly Mission Status Update
Weekly Update Archive

March 26 - April 1, 2004

The Terra spacecraft is operating nominally. All five instruments are in science mode.

The weekly Tiger Team meeting was held on Tuesday March 30, 2004. The team continues to work to diagnose the cause of K-band dropouts experienced by Terra. Although no additional changes were implemented, K-Band events on TDRS West have stopped as of March 13. TDRS Spare K-band events are still occurring.

The Drag Make-up Delta-V Maneuver originally planned for March 24 has been rescheduled for April 6. The March 6 maneuver was waived off as a result of miscommunication with the ASTER instrument team due to inadequate maneuver notification. The ASTER team had scheduled observations during the Delta-V when they should have commanded the instrument to standby mode. The ASTER instrument team requires about 2.5 days of advance commanding to configure ASTER to standby. Corrective action in the form of improved communication and more advance notification is being pursued to avoid this type of error in the future.

A roll maneuver for purposes of MODIS lunar calibration is scheduled for April 9.

During the month of March there were 10 upsets on the High Gain Antenna Motor Drive Assembly (MDA2 BITE failures) occurring in the South Atlantic Anomaly, resulting in minor data loss.
