Terra Weekly Mission Status Update Weekly Update Archive March 19-25, 2004 Terra operations during the past week were nominal with all instruments operating. The Flight Operations Team (FOT) is continuing to support the K-band drop out anomaly team. The mission continues to experience these drop outs and has to re-dump sections of the Terra solid-state recorder. Two A-log errors occurred with the ASTER instrument. These are presently under investigation. These errors are due to stale data from the instrument. The instrument team has been contacted to support this activity. Terra had to waive off the scheduled drag make-up (delta-V) maneuver for March 24, 2004. There was a miscommunication between the Terra FOT and ASTER instrument team. The ASTER instrument team scheduled activities during the delta-V when they should have commanded the instrument to standby operational mode. The ASTER instrument team requires about 2.5 days to configure ASTER into standby operational mode. There was not sufficient time from when the problem was discovered by the FOT on late Tuesday to reschedule the maneuver by the end of the week. The abort of the maneuver went without incident. The CERES instrument was properly configured to contamination safe mode but was able to collect science data in biaxial mode. None of the other instruments were impacted. MODIS and MOPITT were in science mode. MISR was scheduled to be in Taxi Off Mode. The next opportunity is April 6, 2004. On April 6, the spacecraft will have a WRS-2 groundtrack error of 15 km. The limit is 20 km. FDF will be monitoring the solar flux. If there is an increase, the drag make-up will be scheduled earlier. If not, there will be at least one backup opportunity after April 6 if there is a problem before the spacecraft hits the 20-km limit. The FOT is working on lessons learned to prevent this kind of miscommunication between the FOT and ASTER team from happening again.
