At very high resolution, the ASTER instrument will observe and measure cloud properties, land vegetation and other land surface features, surface mineralogy, soil properties, surface temperature, and landscape topography. This artist's concept animation shows ASTER measuring a receding glacier, urban sprawl, and the emissions of an active volcano—three key objectives among ASTER's many research applications.
